China’s fixed asset investment contracted by 7.2% year-over-year in September 2026, unchanged from the revised 7.2% decline recorded in August 2026, according to data updated on 19 October 2026.

The latest reading shows that investment momentum in sectors such as infrastructure, manufacturing, and property remained under sustained pressure at the end of the third quarter. On a year-over-year basis, September’s figure continues to mirror August’s weakness, indicating that the drag on longer-term capital spending has not yet eased compared with the same period a year earlier.

The data, measured on a year-over-year basis for each month against the corresponding month of the previous year, underscores a steady rather than worsening contraction in fixed asset investment, suggesting that while the downturn has stabilized for now, a clear recovery in long-term investment appetite has yet to emerge.
