South Korea’s foreign exchange reserves slipped to $440.6 billion at the end of September 2026, down from $442.3 billion in August, bringing an end to a three-month streak of increases. August had marked the largest monthly gain on record. Securities, the largest component of the reserves, declined to $386 billion from $387.1 billion, while deposits decreased to $30 billion from $30.3 billion. Holdings of Special Drawing Rights (SDRs) also fell, to $15.5 billion from $15.8 billion. Gold holdings and the country’s reserve position at the IMF were unchanged at $4.8 billion and $4.3 billion, respectively.
